Workshops for Industry and Research groups in Puerto Varas, 19 to 21 March, 2018

Ausvet is pleased to invite you to an industry and scientific workshop on integrated epidemiological studies of SRS and Caligus to take place in Puerto Varas on March 19 – 21, 2018. This workshop is part of a series of activities to enable industry and research partners to participate actively and help guide the research.  We look forward to learning from you, hearing your ideas and keeping you up to date on our progress.

The workshops are free to attend and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Workshop Objectives

Three one-day workshops will be held over three consecutive days, each with different objectives. Each day focuses on a different topic and is targeted a different audience, but everybody is welcome to participate in all or any of the workshops.

Day 1: Monday 19 March
Analysis of Sernapesca regulatory data

Theme:Results of analysis of SIFA and INFA data
Priorities for future analysis
Target participants:Fish health and production managers,
Lead facilitators:Jonathan Happold, 
Emma Zalcman

This workshop targets company fish health and production managers, and Sernapesca. The objectives are:

  • Present results of SIFA and INFA data analysis to identify risk factors for SRS and Caligus
  • Identify hypotheses based on the data analysis, as well as other analyses and experience to be tested in the analysis of industry data using the Research Platform
  • Discuss prioritisation of detailed evaluation of three different interventions

Day 2: Tuesday 20 March
Research platform

Theme:Research Platform
Target participants:Fish health, production and data managers
Lead facilitators:Angus Cameron
Catriona Mackenzie

This day targets staff involved in the use and management of company data, including health and production managers as well as technical staff. The objectives are:

  • Provide an update on the implementation of the Research Platform
  • Introduce the web site for the Plataforma Integrada de Investigación Sanitaria para la Acuicultura Chilena (PIISAC):
  • Discuss initial rules on data access, use and reporting

Day 3: Wednesday 21 March
Epidemiological studies

Theme:Epidemiological analysis methodology
Opportunities for use of the Research Platform
Research priorities
Target participants:Epidemiologists and other researchers

This day targets epidemiologists and other researchers from within and outside the FIE program. The objectives are:

  • Review methodology for analysis of SIFA and INFA data and plan methodology for analysis of industry data
  • Discuss hypotheses for risk factors for SRS and Caligus
  • Introduce Research Platform and discuss future use by other researchers
  • Discuss prioritisation of detailed evaluation of three different interventions
